What are the Different Types of Closures and Frontals?

What Are the Different Types of Closures and Frontals

Wigs come in different styles and varieties. However, not everyone prefers a wig that covers an entire head. There are different types of hair attachments available to help with specific hairstyling needs.

Closures and Frontals are a great way to quickly fix your style. They are a form of protective hairstyling and require a little extra attention to blend with your natural hair but these handy add-ons deliver wonders in elevating your style.

The options available for closures and frontals are given below

      Different Types of Closures

Closure is a simple hair attachment used to cover a specific section on the head (not the entire scalp). They perfectly cover bald patches and thin hair spots with less maintenance. Closures are typically 4 x 4 inches in size but they also come in marginally smaller or larger sizes.

They are cheaper than frontals and will help you save a lot of money and time (they last longer) if you have a very specific need (ex: bangs, restricted partition, hair coloring, etc.). While installing a closure, make sure that it is flat and no bumps are formed to avoid messy looking hair.

Silk Closures: The hair is stitched on a silk base. They are slightly thicker than lace closures giving a bulky appearance. Silk is a natural fiber that provides a stronger base for more durability. These closures look more natural as the hair knots are invisible but you might need to tint the silk base to match your complexion.

Lace Closures: They are soft, less expensive, and delicate than silk closures. Lace closures are easier to handle and the installation takes less time. These are the most commonly used closures and the knots of hair can be bleached to make it look more natural.

      Different Types of Frontals

Frontals provide coverage throughout the hairline. They are a little high maintenance but their popularity increased recently as they are more versatile than closures and look flawless. Frontals let you make as many partitions as you like to create an illusion of natural hairline. For more natural looking hair, you can bleach the hair knots and slightly tease the hair in the front. Before you purchase a frontal, measure your head properly to ensure a perfect fit.

      1. Lace Frontals: They have a sheer lace cap to which the hair is sewn. Lace frontals are bigger than lace closures as the lace runs along the front side of the head to cover the length from one ear to another. They are perfect to cover thin hairline providing a seamless look.

      1. 360 Frontals: It looks like a hairband with hair and is used to cover the circumference of the head. They need to be installed by an expert to achieve the perfect coverage. This kind of frontal offers a bit more flexibility in styling as they mimic your hairline on the front and back of the head. Hence, you can try all the cute updo hairstyles without any hassle.

The selection of a closure or a frontal should be as per your requirement and the style you prefer.

Based on the type of hair used, the wigs are mainly classified into three categories:

      3.Human Hair Wigs

These wigs are made from human hair. They undoubtedly give a natural look and last longer than other wigs. They have all the advantages of natural hair and you can style them as you like. They are expensive and require high maintenance. The unprocessed human hair wigs are called virgin hair wigs.

      4.Animal Hair Wigs

These wigs are made using animal hair (yak, goat, horse, sheep, etc.). They cost less than human hair wigs (ex: clown wigs).

      5.Synthetic Wigs

These are made from synthetic fibers such as nylon, acrylic, polyester, or plastic fibers. Over the past few years, synthetic wigs have improved significantly to resemble human hair and are very low in maintenance. They are least expensive compared to human/animal hair wigs. Synthetic wigs are less flexible than human hair wigs when it comes to styling as they are not high heat resistant.

Based on how they are created, the wigs are classified as follows:

      1. Hand Stitched

They are handmade and this is the oldest technique of making wigs followed from centuries. Hair stitched by hand moves similar to natural hair but these wigs are expensive due to the time-consuming process.

             2. Machine Stitched

These wigs are produced using a machine to sew hair. Their production is faster and they are cheaper than hand stitched wigs.

There are many varieties of wigs available based on the type of cap used. Cap is the skeleton of a wig and hair is stitched to it. For several decades, cap provided a basic structure for the wig with limited options, but with changing needs, this transformed from more than just being a base to enhancing the wig quality giving a more natural look.

      1. Full Cap Wigs

These are the traditional type or the most basic wigs which cover the entire head and have high hair volume. They unfortunately do not look natural and also don’t have parting space.

Outre Quick Weave Complete Cap - Alessia

      Cap less Wigs

It is not possible to create a wig without a cap but these wigs are called cap less as hair is tied to vertical elastic strips creating space in the cap structure resulting in less hair density and more air circulation. They are highly durable and less expensive but do not create a natural look.

      Full Lace Wigs

These wigs have lace as a base and resemble closest to the natural hairline. They are the most expensive, breathable, and extremely convenient for all kinds of hairstyles (even the up do hairstyles wouldn’t expose your secret).

      Lace Frontal Wigs

They are similar to full lace wigs but the lace is only available on the front part of the wig. These mimic your hairline only on the front side of the wig. Lace frontal wig needs extra attention while securing it on the head but are more long-lasting for daily usage.

How has the wig evolved? History and Origin

      How Has The Wig Evolved?

A wig is made of real or artificial hair and used to cover the head. It is a short form of ‘periwig’ (derived from the French word for wig: ‘perukes’) and has been around for centuries.

In the current times, wigs are extensively worn for cosmetic purposes. This simple adornment can do wonders in transforming your look and boosting confidence. It is hard to imagine today’s fashion world without wigs, but was the aesthetic purpose the only reason behind the origin of this amazing accessory? The below information on how this trend was born and evolved will leave you in awe.

In ancient times, wigs were part of Egyptians, Assyrians, Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans culture. Egyptians practiced shaving their heads and used wigs to protect their scalp from the hot sun. They used human hair, animal hair, and beeswax to make their appearance more attractive. The highborn wore expensive wigs made from human hair and decorated them with gold. The famous queen Cleopatra was known to use several wigs in her beauty routine. The wig was not just a fashion accessory but was also part of religious rituals, the dead were buried with wigs for a wealthy afterlife.

After many years, ‘Queen Elizabeth I’ brought back wigs into usage to correct hair flaws. However, wigs gained a great reputation in the 17th century and were initially quite popular among men than women. King Louis XIII started wearing a wig to cover receding hairline which soon became a symbol of wealth and status. Many men wore long curly white wigs as part of their professional attire (Judges, Barristers, Politicians, etc.). Later, nobles both men and women followed this tradition of wearing wigs for decades.

      18th century wigs

In the 18th century the French queen ‘Marie Antoinette’ shaped fashion revolution by donning huge wigs embedded with jewels, feathers, and colorful accessories. Her sense of style was much talked about and many women imitated her elaborate styles. Wig became a fashion statement and wigmakers job was considered prestigious because of the expensive process and details.

The popularity for this accessory grew drastically among the people playing a multipurpose role to conceal the bald spots caused due to some diseases, to make a style statement, and some even practiced head shaving and wearing wigs to avoid hair lice.

By the 19th century, men preferred their hair short and the long wigs faded slowly bringing natural hair into fashion. Women’s wigs changed with changing trends, as women preferred enormous hairstyles which involved addition of bulk hair to their natural hair, many forms of wigs such as hair padding, extensions, and fringes came into the picture.

In the early 20th century, only elderly women were seen wearing wigs due to trending short hairstyles, but this fad changed bringing back the wigs into fashion by celebrities like Diana Ross. Synthetic wigs were made for a cheaper price in several lengths to match everyone’s taste and wigs never went out of style ever since.

Over the past 300 years, wigs evolved from being a status symbol to a practical and fashion add-on. A wig is an accessory many fashion icons and artists swear by to create a unique look.  Wigs are very handy to use for both women and men, available for cheaper prices, and are exceptionally easy to maintain.

WEAVE TERMS AND TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

WEAVE TERMS AND TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

The weave world is amazing for what it is! Oh what’s up! Hey y'all and welcome back to my channel. I'm going to be giving the basic tips and terminology that you need to know. So, let's jump right in!

probably the most basic saying that you definitely need to know is what tracks are! tracks are literally just the base of the weed and tracks and wefts are the same thing. Okay? tracks and wefts are the same thing. a Weft hair is just the hair that is being sewn together to make the extension. now with West you can either get single wefted or double wefted. single is going to be a little bit thinner. it's going to be more natural you know? I recommend a single weft because it will make your hair look flatter. double wefted is going to be thicker. and you can either get it machine wefted or hand wefted. Now, i also would recommend machine Wefted because the machine is going to make the tracks more secure versus hand wefting. In hand Wefting you're probably going to experience more shedding.

Now the next important thing that you need to know is what pieces and lots. because I know that when you're looking for hair when it says how many pieces do you want, you’re like how many pieces? I want a lot of weave! pieces are literally bundles. that is , that is all. when they say pieces they mean bundles.

A lot is the amount of bundles that are sold together. Usually you get three bundles per lot so two lots, six bundles. three Lots, nine bundles so on and so forth. How did you know that, the next most important thing you need to know is density. Very important that you need to make sure that you not walking out here with three bundles and 24 inches and it's looking like straw. You need to make sure that it's flowing and it's thick It’s bouncy so when it's time you know!  The density ranges from 90% to 200%. 90 don't ever get 90 percent! unless you want some thin ass hair, you should be looking for hair between 100 and 150 percent density. a hundred percent is still on the thinner side. between 120 and 130 percent, that's like the most natural health realistic look of what your real hair would be. and then I usually get 150 percent density because that is like natural but it's thicker. if you are trying to get some like long ass hair, like 24, 26 inches, then you need to get 180 percent density so that you can ensure that even though it's long you're still going to have that same you know thickness throughout.

So now that you understand those basics, the next thing you need to know is the types of hair there are. the Three main types of hair you need to know of are: the virgin hair, remy hair and synthetic hair. Remy and virgin hair, they're similar but they are definitely not the same. Virgin hair is completely natural, its unprocessed hair , it's like straight from a ponytail. They take it, cut it, boom! It’s unprocessed, natural hair , not touch-type hair. Remy hair, it is human hair as well however, it doesn't come from the same person. It's going to come from a bunch of different people and usually there is a chemical added to it. So like whether it's permed or colored or whatever the case may be and the remy hair also has the cuticles intact. Now synthetic hair I mean obviously I'm not going to recommend synthetic hair unless you are just want something really quick or like a quick cheap wig like just something quick and on the go. but synthetic hair is fake hair everyone knows that on these plastic fibers that actually come from acrylic that they heat up and they stretch out.

Now that you know the three types of hair, there's a bunch of different ways that you can get hair sewn in. But the top three are regular, you know, sewing with leave out of frontal and a closure. Now there is definitely a difference between a frontal and a closure. A lot of people don't know the difference. A frontal goes from ear to ear and it's to recreate your entire like hairline. You can either get you know the frontal just for the front or you can get a 360 frontal that's going to go all the way around your hair; so that you can wear it. But if you get the 360, then you know its got to cover up the kitchen.

Then, you also have a closure. A closure is usually either 2 by 2 or 4 by 4. And it is just to recreate your natural part. So you can either you know, put it right here to do the middle part, or you can move it shift it a little bit to one side or the other or a side part. Frontals and closures are really good for protective styles, when say, you're beaded-out starts to break off.

So now that you know those basics, now you need to choose the hair type that you want. Now there's so many hair types to choose. From Brazilian, Peruvian, Indian, Malaysian, Mongolian, Russian, Cambodian, the list goes on and on. However, the top three that I would personally recommend are: Indian, Peruvian and Cambodian. I love Peruvian. I have had Peruvian straight hair plenty of times and I’ve recommended it to friends. They got it, they loved it. I had Indian Deep curly, if you haven't seen my hair review that I did on the Indian deep curly hair that I had and still have. I've had it for a year now and it's still popping. I've also tried out the Cambodian curly and straight hair. Love both of those as well. I haven’t really tried out Eurasian and I haven't tried out Russian, but I'm going to try out Russian next because I keep on hearing good things about it so. I'm going to have to check that one out.

So once you figure out the type of hair you want, you need to figure out the texture of hair that you want. And there is a bunch of textures as well! We have straight, loose wave, body wave, water wave, deep wave, deep curly, kinky curly, The lists just goes on and on and on.

So now, I believe I've equipped you with enough terminology and tips for you to be able to purchase whatever weave out there that suits you best. I hope you all enjoyed this video. Thank you all for tuning in again to KC TV. I'll see you guys next time.

      Pros:

      1. It is a great protective styling which shields your hair from dust, chemicals, excessive heat used during straightening, blow drying techniques.
      2. It is super quick with a motto of ‘Get up and Go’, no need to spend a ton of time to make your hair look perfect in the morning and also it stays perfect all throughout the day.
      3. Braiding is stylish and there are so many options from simple to complex patterns to give you the chic look. It gives you a chance to choose between several options to create your own, show off your creativity with some colorful braids.
      4. You don't have to use excessive sprays/gels to make your hair manageable, it has a very little maintenance for almost 6-8 weeks.
      5. Braiding helps in promoting hair growth as it provides structural support to hair and this technique also avoids split ends making your hair healthier.
      6. This hairdo will give a major break from frizzy hair problem, Bye Bye Bad Hair Days!
      7. Braiding is undoubtedly the most convenient and stylish way to forget about hair styling for months.
      8. They are incredibly versatile, letting you experiment with hairstyles or you can simply leave them loose.

      Cons:

      1. Installing braids takes time depending on the type of braid, keep a day aside for the process. Once done, they are super convenient to manage.
      2. It might take you couple of days to get used to them. To keep them in place, use a satin night cap when you sleep and forget worrying about slippage of braids or getting undone during the night.
      3. Bigger the braids, heavier they are to carry. Make sure you choose the length of braid as per your tolerance to avoid neck pain.
      4. Get a good hair stylist to install braids or they might get too tight. These tight braids may cause soreness on the scalp and hairline damage. So, if you feel that your stylist is doing the braids too tight, don't be shy to tell them to go easy on the hair. To avoid any hair damage, always prep your hair well before braiding: clean, apply conditioner, detangle (work from bottom to top) and stretch.
      5. If you leave the braids longer than 2 to 3 months, hair might get locked. Keep a track of time to ensure you get them redone before it is late.
      6. It can be itchy if you don't take good care of braids leading to dry scalp. Post hair care routine plays an important role, wash and hydrate on regular basis (1 to 2 weeks). If you have a dry scalp, moisturize more frequently.

Braids are gorgeous and will definitely pump up your look while protecting your hair. Create your own unique style and enjoy the benefits with very little maintenance.

Look and feel great all day with braids!
